Andor Season 2: Ben Mendelsohn Returns as Krennic and High Stakes Rise for Cassian Andor
- Aug-11-2024
Ben Mendelsohn will be back as Orson Krennic in the upcoming Andor season. Many fans believe Andor stands out as the finest Star Wars series produced by Disney to date, and the good news is that a new season is on the way. The storyline, which leads directly into Star Wars: Rogue One, spans four years and offers a unique perspective on the tale of the Rebels, with each three-episode segment representing a single year.
At Disney's D23 event, a preview for the second season unveiled the return of Ben Mendelsohn in the role of Orson Krennic. The screening also featured appearances by Saw Gerrera, played by Forest Whitaker, K-2SO, voiced by Alan Tudyk, and Mon Mothma, portrayed by Genevieve O'Reilly.
Diego Luna, who embodies the character of Cassian Andor, shared his thoughts with the audience: Rogue One transformed my life. I’ve been connected to Cassian Andor for a decade now. Completing this narrative that begins with Season 1 and leads into Rogue One is incredible. The first season covers one year, during which he endures the empire's domination and begins to taste bravery. The story in this second season will track Cassian across a four-year span as he evolves into the iconic rebel champion seen in Rogue One. This season presents higher stakes, more formidable foes, and the pressure is rising. The empire's menace escalates, and Andor is driven by a profound mission for freedom and a brighter future.
Tony Gilroy, the creative force behind the series, expressed his enthusiasm by saying: I’ve enjoyed myself over the years, but I’m not sure I’ve ever been involved in anything as significant as the 24 hours of storytelling we’re working on now. It may be due to my current project, but it feels like more than that. I've never had an opportunity to engage on such a large scale, making this a substantial experience for me.
While there is no confirmed release date for the second season of Andor, filming wrapped up in February. Tony Gilroy has indicated that post-production will likely take about a year from that point, so there’s a hopeful possibility for an early 2025 premiere.
